Meeting Kristina

Jax's suite. Kristina has come back from the police station and is upset because Alexis didn't seem to want to have anything to do with her. Jax finally informs Kristina that a very good friend had died. Jax is at the bar, drinking.

Kristina: I'm sorry.

Jax: (shrugs) Well, you couldn't have known.

Kristina: No, I meant that I'm sorry about the death of your friend. I'm also sorry about acting like a self-centered jerk, but that's more me. I want to give something to you.

Jax: Well, you can't. (turns to face her) But thanks for offering.

Kristina: What was her name?

Jax: Chloe Morgan.

Kristina: (shocked) The designer?

Jax: (nods) Yes. (pauses) You know, Alexis is taking Chloe's death pretty hard. (reminiscing) Who'd have thought two women so completely opposite would have given each other the time of day? But they were best friends. (smiles, remembering) Chloe was always teasing Alexis to lighten up, try new things. She got her into power walking when I couldn't even get her to get out of bed before 10:00 A.M. unless she had a court date.

Kristina: (realizing) So when I saw her at the police station, she was hiding in her work.

Jax: (nods) Alexis is coping by doing what she knows. I'm sure once she's had time to pull herself together, she'll come and meet you. (after a pause, forced lighthearted tone) In the meantime, are you hungry or tired? I mean, did you take a cab, or have you been walking all over town on foot?

Kristina: I like walking, but don't change the subject. Jax, you're just as hurt as Alexis, you're just as upset, and you're trying just as hard to hide it. (Jax nods) You're blaming yourself for not being able to protect your friend. But, Jax, don't. (shrugs) You're protecting me, you're protecting Alexis. You can't be all things to all people.

Jax: (smiles) You like to get to the point, don't you?

Kristina: Well, yeah, pretty much. It's kind of a curse.

Jax: You remind me of someone.

There's a knock at the door.

Jax: Okay, I don't want anyone to know you're here, so -- (waves his hands at her in a "go away" motion)

Kristina: I will --

Jax: Yes.

Kristina: (points to the back of the suite) Go to my room.

Jax: Go.

Kristina leaves. Jax walks over and opens the door.

Alexis: (shrugs, crying) I didn't know where else to go.

Jax holds his arms out and Alexis goes to him, wrapping her arms around him. They hug.

{Next Scene}

Jax lets go of Alexis and she walks into the suite.

Jax: (closing the door) I thought you'd be with Ned.

Alexis: Yeah, he went over to the Quartermaines because he wanted to tell them what happened before the police did.

Jax nods.

Alexis: (after a pause, tears in her eyes) I wanted Chloe to take me shopping for shoes before she left for Milan. (sighs heavily) And that's all I could think about when I left the police station. (rolls her eyes) I was just thinking about shoes -- not who killed her, not the last time that I saw her. I just got my brain stuck on shoes.

Alexis stops. Jax smiles at her, waiting for her to continue.

Alexis: (voice cracking as she tries not to cry) I don't think I ever thanked her for forcing me to exercise.

She laughs. Jax watches her, concerned.

Alexis: (voice still cracking, eyes full of tears) I don't think that I thanked her for very much at all, actually.

Jax: Well, you know, a lot of the time, between friends things are left unsaid because they don't need to be said.

Alexis: So, anyway, I left the police station. I was thinking about shoes, and then it occurred to me that I should be here meeting Kristina. (rolls her eyes again) And then I thought, well, now I should call Chloe because she would know what to do in a situation like this. She would know what to say, and --

She trails off, tears flowing from her eyes as she tries to collect herself.

Alexis: -- and I can't do that because she's gone. I can't do that anymore.

She stops again. Jax smiles, but the smile fades, showing how concerned he is.

Alexis: (fidgeting) I don't know -- (starts to cry again) know what to do.

Jax steps over to her, taking her hand in his.

Jax: Hey, hey, none of us do. None of us do. (puts a hand on her face) Okay?

Alexis: (smiles) Mm-hmm.

Jax: That's why we turn to our friends, so we can all not know what to do together.

Alexis laughs, wiping her tears.

Jax: You are the most capable person I've ever met, (shakes his head) but you are on overload, okay? You need to sleep or cry some more (Alexis laughs) or get drunk, or perhaps all three.

Alexis nods, stops laughing.

Alexis: (considerably calmer) Okay. I think that I want to be on steadier ground when I meet Kristina.

Jax: Yeah.

Kristina: (from the other side of the room) Too late.

Jax and Alexis looks towards her. Kristina takes a few steps into the living room. Jax steps away from Alexis, who is watching Kristina, mouth hanging open, totally stunned.

Kristina: (walking over to Alexis) We -- we already met at the police station.

Alexis continues to stare at Kristina for a moment, then attempts to collect herself.

Alexis: (still shocked) Uh -- I apologize. You must have thought I was very rude.

Kristina: No, Jax explained everything. God, I'm so sorry about your friend.

Alexis: (staring at Kristina) Thank you.

They both look at each other, not sure what to say.

Alexis: (after a moment) Were you wearing an over -- overcoat?

Kristina: (laughs) Oh, yeah. I borrowed it from Jax.

Alexis: (glances at Jax, laughs) Why? (serious, shakes her head) I'm sorry, I don't need to know that. I don't know why I -- (pauses, staring at Kristina) asked that. (quietly) I'm just a little scattered.

Kristina: Why, I can imagine.

Alexis continues to stare at Kristina, then shakes her head.

Alexis: (slowly) I wanted to see you. I -- I just wanted it to be right, and I -- (laughs quietly) not that I would know what would be -- how to do this.

She trails off. They both look at each other, again, not sure what to say or do.

Alexis: I -- this is really weird. (they both laugh) I mean, it's surreal that you're standing in front of me.

Kristina: (smiling broadly) And, God, if it helps, I feel exactly the same way. (steps closer to Alexis) It's like I've been waiting for so long. Like, can this actually be happening, am I just making it up? (shakes her head) Except I'm not. Except if I was, I would have wanted it to work out so differently. I would have wanted to be perfect and -- oh, God, I'm sorry. I'm just rambling. (shakes her head) I do that when I'm nervous.

Alexis looks at her, a bit shocked, because she does the same thing.

Kristina: Oh, look. I brought you something.

Kristina hands Alexis a photograph. Alexis takes it and looks at it. She glances up at Kristina, then back at the photo.

Alexis: (whispering) It's my mother.

Kristina: (also whispering) It's my mother, too.

Alexis and Kristina look at each other. Alexis' eyes tear up again, and she steps over to Kristina, wrapping her arms around her and pulling her close. They both start crying.

Alexis: (whispering) I've found my sister. I've found my little sister.
