Part Seven

He didn't understand why he felt how he did whenever he was around her. Like the whole world has stopped and they're the only ones in it. Seeing her and talking to her was always the best part of his day. He remembered as he waited patiently in his apartment everyday for Alexis to come in with her legal terms, or her babbling about nothing at all. Some days when she didn't show up, he would conjure up an excuse to be in the pleasure of her company. He liked to watch her, the expressions on her face as he teased her, the pink flush that touches her cheeks as she captures her bottom lip between her teeth when nervous or embarrassed, the smile across her face after saying something witty, or the sincerity and gentleness in her eyes when he confided in her. The trust and respect he sees in them fills him with hope. She's beautiful, intelligent, classy and so damned complex. Alexis was an easy woman to love. And god, he loved her. She's like a drug. He loved and was addicted to all of her --- body, mind and soul. line

She was different from all the other women he's been with. The first time he saw her, there was an instant admiration that ensued. She's the kind of woman he always thought was out of his league. She was a Cassadine for god's sake, she was royalty and was an elite. She was a challenge and Sonny went after her, legally speaking. She possessed an interesting mind... a mind Sonny found stimulating.

He was engulfed with the thought of her that he hadn't notice as he stood outside her door. 'This was it,' he thought to himself. He stared at the door for a long moment. His body was suspended and was not able to respond to his mind. He couldn't get himself to knock on her door. He was afraid. Afraid of what would happen after he poured his heart to her. Would she do the same or would she simply brush him off? He lifted his fisted arms to the door but was interrupted by the sudden footsteps that escaped the elevator doors. He turned around and saw her --- his lawyer, his friend, his confidante.... Alexis Davis, the woman he'd come to love.

She was shocked to see him standing outside her door. They stood there looking at each other for what seemed like ages. They were enthralled in each other's gaze. She saw something in his eyes, something she's never seen before, or perhaps she just wasn't paying enough attention.

He moved towards her, occupying the space that once existed between their bodies. He was now a touching distance away from her.

His sudden movement and the close proximity of their bodies alarmed her. She took a step back and broke away from his enticing eyes which were still fixated on her. She fiddled nervously with her keys and watched them as they crashed to the ground. She bent down to retrieve it but was taken aback by Sonny's stealth. He was right down with her as their hands met to gain possession of the cold piece of metal.

They faced each other once again and looked into each other's eyes. Their senses were heightened as they exchanged and shared the warmth of each other's touch. Alexis could feel Sonny's hot breathe on her cheek. She was brought back to that night. The night where she stood in Sonny's room, his right arm wrapped firmly around her waist, roaming the small of her back, as they lost themselves in each other --- as they lost all sensible thought and control.

Sonny looked at her closed lids and wondered where her mind had taken her. Was she thinking of their night together? She watched Alexis' mouth as she captured her bottom lip between her teeth. He couldn't resist himself and touched the side of her face with the back of his hand, tucking wisps of her hair behind her ear. She leaned on his hand that lingered on her neck, accepting his touch. Sonny was surprised but sought to go on. He took his thumb and grazed the nape of her neck with gentle and soothing strokes. He watched in satisfaction as a smile crept up Alexis' face.

His lulling touch brought her back to reality. She didn't want to wake from the dream she had just been on but she forced her eyes to open back to his. She saw him looking at her mouth. His lips were parted as he ran his tongue across his lower lip. Alexis' mind was invaded by unwelcomed thoughts. Their closeness and contact alarmed her. She pulled away from him and snatched the forgotten key off the floor. She stood up and grabbed her brief case, "Um...I have a lot of papers to go over...."

He lifted himself off the floor and looked curiously at her. He knew he pushed too far, he was moving too fast. "Take it slow Sonny..." He heard Jason's voice in his mind. She shifted her position and let out a nervous giggle, "I actually have to finalize some things for you before I officially resign myself under your employment." Her formality and choice of words were expected but they still brought unsettling memories of her and their relationship together.

"Alexis..." The elevator doors once again opened and Carly was emptied to the hallway.

"Sonny, I..... Alexis." The smile faded from her face as she witnessed a very telling scene right before her eyes. Alexis clutched on her briefcase and turned around to meet Carly's face.

"I was just on my way to my apartment.... I'll, umm... leave you two alone..." Alexis walked passed Sonny and struggled with the key in her lock.

Sonny watched Carly's glaring eyes then focused his attention back to Alexis, still standing at her door, fiddling with the lock. He watched in amusement as she tussled with the impossible lock and key.

"You know, no one's going to want to move in here if you don't get your locks changed."

He let out a light chuckle as he walked towards Alexis to assist her, "Here, let me..." He stood behind Alexis, his body leaning on her back. He smoothed his hand on her arm, down to her hand and took hold of the key. Carly watched in disbelief and stormed back into Sonny's penthouse. Sonny looked behind him and back to Alexis who was now staring at his face. They looked at each other as he slowly turned the key in the lock and moved his hand down to the knob to open the door for her. His smiling eyes fixated on hers.

"There you go." He flashed her a smile.

She flashed one of her own and stepped into her apartment. She turned around to face his body that stood waiting at her door. "Thanks..." She managed to utter. She looked at his door across the hall, "I think you should..."

"Uh, yeah...I should...but um, I'll come by later, we need to talk... you know... go over some papers...stuff you know, before you go....unless...um, unless your busy and..."

"Yeah, just come by later, I have a few minutes to spare before I head downtown."

"Ok.." He motions his hand towards his PH. "I'll, yeah, I'll see you in a bit..."

"Yeah.."

Sonny smiled at her and walked towards his PH across the hall.

"Sonny!" She called out. He turned around and glanced at her. "Congratulations. I meant what I said this morning. I'm glad your happy." She nodded and gave him a weak smile and disappeared behind her door.

Sonny stood in the hallway and looked at the blank space outside her door. He smiled to himself understanding what Alexis meant. She was congratulating him and Carly with their upcoming re-newal. Alexis still thought that he was re-newing his vows with Carly tonight. She was unaware of the change in agenda...she was unaware of his plans for her tonight. Boy, was she in for a big surprise.
